The Ministry of Defence has announced a public auction of casted vehicles, equipment, and boarded general stores across five regions.

Viewing begins on Mar 16, 2026. Auctions run from Mar 31 to Apr 28, 2026. Bidders must pay a Sh1,000 catalogue fee and a refundable deposit of up to Sh50,000.

According to the notice issued on Wednesday, the goods will be sold on an “as – is – where – is” basis. The tenders include, MOD/423(0701) 2025/26 – KNB Mtongwe (Mombasa Region), MOD/423(0702) 2025/26 – 43 OCC (Nanyuki Region), MOD/423(0703) 2025/26 – DEFOD Kahawa (Nairobi Region), MOD/423(0704) 2025/26 – 23 OCC Lanet (Nakuru Region) and MOD/423(0705) 2025/26 – 63 OCC Modika (Garissa Region).

The vehicles, equipment, and stores may be viewed from Mar 16, 2026 during working days only, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, after purchasing the catalogue.

Viewing locations include Ulinzi House main gate along Lenana Road, 23 OCC Nakuru, 43 OCC Nanyuki, KNB Mtongwe, DEFOD Kahawa, and 63 OCC Garissa.

Catalogues giving full details of items may be obtained upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Sh1,000.00 (One Thousand Shillings) per set from the designated offices.

Interested bidders are required to pay a refundable bid number deposit of Sh50,000.00 for vehicles/equipment and Sh30,000.00 for stores in cash payable to the Ministry of Defence before the last day of viewing.

The notice states that “Each Bid number will only be allowed to bid for one Lot ONLY.”

Bidders must present the original catalogue and receipts for both the catalogue and bid number deposits at the entrance to participate in the auction.

The public auction will take place at designated sale yards on the following dates, 63 OCC Garissa – 31 Mar 31, 2026 at 10:00 am, KNB Mtongwe –Apr 8, 26 at 10:00 am, 43 OCC Nanyuki –Apr 14, 2026 at 10:00 am, 23 OCC Nakuru – Apr 21, 26 at 10:00 am and DEFOD Kahawa – Apr 28, 2026 at 10:00 am.

Successful bidders will be required to pay a deposit of 25 per cent of the bid at the fall of the hammer and settle the remaining balance within fourteen (14) days.

Failure to comply will result in cancellation of the award and forfeiture of the deposit.

Unsuccessful bidders will be refunded their bid number deposits upon presentation of original receipts.

Successful bidders’ bid deposits will be credited to the final purchase price, with the remaining balance payable thereafter.

Items must be collected within thirty (30) days after full payment, failing which storage charges will apply at a rate of 1 per cent of the bid offer per day up to a maximum of three (3) months. Items not collected within three months will be forfeited together with the monies paid.

The notice further states that successful bidders will be responsible for payment of duty, VAT, and other related charges where applicable under government regulations.

The sale is subject to a Reserve Price, and the Ministry reserves the right to reject any bid below the reserve price and does not bind itself to give the reasons for the rejection.

Additional conditions require buyers of motor vehicles to repaint them with non-military colour patterns where applicable.

The notice also states that “No EX – Military vehicle should be put on the road with EX – Military number plates, contrary to which the vehicle will be impounded immediately.”

Successful bidders must obtain clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority before collecting items from the sale yards.

The auction process is being overseen by the Head of Supply Chain Management for the Principal Secretary.
